This game is great despite of some bugs, i don't know if you are doing all the arts alone, it is really great, however it would be great to have matching arts with the main character's hair colour for example, if you have the time and will to anyway.
I would love to see more story or quests after the main planet, a space station or even more alien races/planets with unique quests such as slavery market or cassino brothels, also a pregnancy system to make the game more challenging. More locations on the planet would be nice too, would be a interesting if we could return to Earth as a type of ending too.
No worries, your english is great! Thanks for the nice feedback on my game. Yes, the art wasn't done by anyone else.
The issue you mention about the art matching with the main character's hair color, I'm aware of it, but it couldn't be done.
Right now I'm developing the 2D version of this game, because I wanted to give 2D a try and the codebase of the text game was very big. Give it a try if you want https://sugarmint.itch.io/malevolent-planet-unity
Is there any way to skip a fight or cheat in one? I'm at the Shar'nul fight and honestly I don't think I can get through it lol It two shots me, I don't know if there's rng good enough to have me win that fight
With the Shar'nul fight, you have to pick a bunch of correct choices in order to bring it down. I think the fight was meant to be slightly punishing, so you may need a few tries to win it >.> The choices you picked before the fight matter too
Yes. The picture on the left changes slightly. The one on the right stay the same during combat. So there are only a few pictures for combat and ambient pictures in the center, is that right?
I had fun with this game, but i hope that you will work on it more, a lot of the quests are annoyingly bugged because you are not wearing the correct outfit.
Hey, Nashina! Yes, the bugs are a plague. It's a lot for a solo dev to handle, especially when you're dealing with a difficult financial situation so I'm trying my best.
So I know it has been awhile, but I just discover this game and started playing it. my only issue so far is sometime the fights just lock and I have to restart. also when loading a saved game offline or on the web version none of the stats on the watch remain, they go back to 0 every time.
Hello. Issues like this are why the text game is on a bit of a hiatus right now. If there was support from patrons to focus on an update for the text game with a bunch of bugfixes and minor content, I could do that, but right now my focus is on progressing with the 2D game's content.
Are you able to consistently reproduce these issues, outside of the stats not being saved? The stats are likely fixed in a build that's right now only for patrons, but not sure about the fights.
March 11 has been a loong loong while ago. Is there... any plan to further development? I'm asking because I kinda like your HTML approach very much =)
I wasn't aware of that, thank you for the info! My pleasure, there are only a few games that are worth their salt, and MalP is one of them, In my opinion. It's part old-school cool and part sci-fi charm =)
What did you like and dislike most about the game? I've been doing a bit of thinking on what I intended to do with MP, so I'm curious about your opinion as a player.
Hmm, fair question. My last playthrough has been a while ago - so I'm not entirely sure I've seen all there is to see. I distinctly remember exhausting the Village story arc and exploring the actual planet as much as I could. I think I hit a black wall then.
I like the exposition approach to it all: You start on a rather linear path, get to know all the intricacies of the overall story (but not too much fluff) - and then are catapulted into "the situation at hand". Although there is not THAT much content, the entire sandbox experience is exactly what I want from games like this. You can explore on your own, manage some gear, cultivate little story arcs (or not) and have generally some "fun" scientific discoveries. The implication to build (or avoid) "contamination/corruption/lewdness" is the key here - it implies further darker or lighter paths ahead. Plus the Village mystery box (and it's larger story).
Then there is the easy navigation (inside the ship) - what a nice hub for activities! In order to shorten this: You have certain game UI elements and design choices that are very nice and mature. The design is ambitious (even the story structure and where it leads), it must be rather hard to stick to the overall higher production quality. Which is my key issue with the game: You decided to switch the engine mid-game development. This has to be a rather hard uphill battle for you, maintaining both branches (effectively two games) AND developing each story content. So these are my two cents from the top of my head. I'm intrigued, the story and design both lead you to expect a game I'm deeply rooting for. Cuz y'know, the "Anomaly Vaults" (NoodleJacuzzi's work) of this world are super fun and nice - but the story-heavy games are where this genre truly shines, for me at least. Hope this helps in any way. Take care and have a great week!
I decided to change the engine because I was getting burnt out of describing environmental details and thought via a 2d approach I can put more creativity into dialogues and scenes rather than describing how the yellow sun torches the soil underneath your feet.
I'm planning on making exploration more centric around the ship and hub areas, like the Citadel was in Mass Effect. Precisely what you said, you're not sure you've seen all there is to see, is what led me to think about some things. I was working a lot on developing content, but I had to hold the players' hands to actually get to see that content and I figured I went wrong somewhere.
Now, I think I know where I went wrong and that's why the 2d will diverge from the text game. Because I was also focusing on adding content to the open world village map, I also neglected focusing on the main story plot that would have had you repair your ship and fly out to space.
I hope the changes I'm making will be to your taste as well, since I'm always happy when I hear that someone liked something I did :)
While I've loved what I've seen of the game so far, I have come across a couple of issues.
I play on an android device through the web browser, and due to that the map images get cut off on the far left side. This cuts off the key to the ships legend, as well as the left side of the town map... which includes the north gate area meaning that I can't do the Medicine questline as I cannot access the North Gate. Is there a fix to this?
Another thing is when I engage with the Blackmailing creep at the bar, the combat locks me out of doing anything if I don't use the caress option, I get stuck only getting the tool tips of the choices, and can't progress onto further rounds.
Other than these issues, I'm loving the game so far!
Thanks a lot for your feedback and I'm glad you like MP! What device are you playing on? I could try to emulate it and develop a quick fix for your resolution.
I should say that I found a fix in downloading the file and playing through Joiplay. But now I have another error. During the fight with the Sharnah-thing. When I lose the fight and enter the cult dream the game stops progressing once I reach the choice of either staying on the ground or getting up and running away.
The text game will continue to receive updates, just at a much slower pace. Sugarmint has recently brought a secondary writer onboard for the text game to help with increasing the amount of new content that gets added in each update, but the updates themselves are likely still going to be pretty spaced out.
An error during the ship's party scene, get-to-know-you card game:
"Error: <<set>>: bad evaluation: State.variables.Player.Likes is undefined"
Also, during the "show down" (vs Shyvan'sana) of the dance contest, when the combat window appeared, I tried to select "Charm", but nothing happened. I then tried to select "Seduce", still nothing happened. In fact, none of the actions worked. Not finding a way to win the contest.
I found another problem: When I "fight" the tentacles or plant and defeat it, I get a message saying I have collected a sample and to look in my inventory to see how many I've collected, the inventory has none in it:
When starting a new game, can no longer get past character creation screen. the button is missing or inactive.
This happens even with the downloaded copy.
The game was working fine last week, but not now. I have tried this on different browsers and on different PCs. Just can't get past the character creation screen.
I am a bisexual girl, so I appreciated the one encounter with "Melissa" (in the "linear" "intro" part of the story). I hope there will be more lesbian encounters in future versions. (There is a picture on this website, above, depicting a second lesbian encounter, but I haven't encountered it (yet).)
Also, there are 2 quests I cant complete: "Viradium T" and "Hunt for Party Supplies". Neither has a time specified and "Hunt" also has a location, "Ship Upgrades" that isn't on any of the maps.
Also, there were several places in the text where "bosom" was used to refer to the buttocks (or "butt" or "ass"). Bosom actually refers to breasts.
Thanks a lot for the feedback and I'm happy you like it! There's more lesbian content in the Festival Quest with Sarah and Melissa.
Sadly, about these issues you encountered, I'm the sole dev for this game and the game has gotten really big so it's gotten harder fixing stuff. Right now I'm making an Unity version for Malevolent Planet and it's getting a day0 release soon. After that, I'll return for a few weeks to the text game to fix some bugs and to add more content.
Sorry for using "bosom" incorrectly :D I'm not a native English speaker so I thought it was interchangeable.
Im taking your code to make my game because i have no fukin idea how to do it myself (For inventory and other things but not story or images as those are considered copyright)
edit: holy shit theres so much here! how am i gonna sort through it all?!!
I'm making an expanded version of Malevolent Planet in Unity. I'm not sure if Morris is supposed to be romanceable but we can figure something out with time :D
I'm making an expanded version of Malevolent Planet in Unity. Day0 is releasing soon and will be playable on itch. An update to the text version will come as well a few weeks after Day0.
ohh this is nice! There's only few games apart from otome games that appeal to straight girls. I enjoy the game format since I play games with a lot of texting anyways lol
Generally, it won't show images because Chrome, your browser, doesn't have access to local storage files or something like that. Sorry for the inconvenience. I think the itch online version works fine on mobile devices though.
No problem. Because of this, when I tried HTML games on my phone I had to use that app I linked. It's the only one that loads the images in without issues. Can't find it on the normal Play Store though.
If you'd like, I can enable the option that would let you automatically orientate the display based on the tilt. The issue is that the UI was calibrated for portrait mode, not for landscape mode so I forced portrait to prevent issues.
Hi there!! Sadly, when I played online and saved and went back to it the next day, all of my saves were deleted. I didn't clear my history at all so I'm confused why it did this
I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes the browser clears the cache by itself and it's recommended to make a manual (local) save once in a while. It could also be an iframe issue because my chrome saves stayed there most of the time.
Can you please make the image folders unified? It totally clutters my phone's gallery. There are 100+ folders. Is it possible to change them into one big folder?

There are drawings of some scenes, imagemaps, backgrounds. I try to put in as much art as I can, but there's a question of time because my art style isn't based on line-art, meaning that although the drawings can look more realistic, they take more time on average.
Sadly I couldn't find anything that attracts my attention. Too many texts and so little animations. I was hoping for something like Degrees of Lewdity. Anyways good luck with your game.

Have an issue i cant get to some parts of the village map but other than thar I have no more complaints (mobile user)
Are they still working on this game? I have really enjoyed it so far, but I've finished what they have so far. I hope they do.
Does this game plans to add male gender in the future? Im kinda in the middle of adding it to my collection or not
How do I fix this?

Are there supposed to be pictures on the right side? If so they don't appear in my browser.
Can you take a screenshot of what it looks like for you?
Like hits. I use Opera GX.
Did you ever get to the combat system part? That's where images are supposed to show up on the right, or when interacting with some NPCs.
Yes. The picture on the left changes slightly. The one on the right stay the same during combat. So there are only a few pictures for combat and ambient pictures in the center, is that right?
No, there are many drawings in the center. I'm not exactly sure why yours is not showing up properly. Have you tried in Chrome?

I feel horrible saying this but so far I like the HTML version over the Unity one.
Don't be. I also feel the same. It would be a shame if they stop updating this version. I'd say it's a lot better than the 2d one

the one-piece swimsuit and the bikini bottom are incredibly bugged out. You just can’t take them off, and sometimes even strip blackjack won’t work
where is north gate?
North-West of the Village if I remember correctly. There should be an orange hover color if you have a quest in that area.

Should be alright now. I hope I'll remember to make a different icon.

Hey there. Just a thought but how about adding horizontal screen in. Vertical gave me this.
That's strange. It should force portrait orientation. I'll check it out.
That's only in the online version. The offline one works fine, though you might wanna fix it so that the UI scales down when in horizontal.
I will see about that. Thanks for the report!
I want to enabe images, please.
Try Local HTML Viewer. If you open the html file with that, you should be able to view images.
I'll play online instead
Can you please make the image folders unified? It totally clutters my phone's gallery. There are 100+ folders. Is it possible to change them into one big folder?
I'll see what I can do, but it's not very easy because the code depends on the paths of the images.
Is there a way to disable images and just texts?
Not right now, I didn't know such a feature would be requested.

Yes.
